Areola After-Care Instructions

Important Information!

Some redness/swelling/light bruising and slight itching during the healing process post-procedure is normal. If you experience heavy itching, extreme swelling, blistering, or any other complications within the first 24 hours post-procedure, stop using your after-care product immediately. If symptoms continue, or you experience abnormal swelling/redness or shortness of breath/trouble breathing, inform your artist, your primary doctor, or go to the closest Hospital ER; you may be having an allergic reaction to the pigment and/or the aftercare product you are using.

  • After 4 hours (no more than 8 hours) remove the non-stick pad. Rinse gently using a mild soap and clean fingertips.

Don’t let your freshly tattooed areola touch your bra directly for a few days. Use non-stick pads the first day and change every few hours as needed.

  • If dressing sticks, apply water to loosen. The main goal is to let your skin breath. Be free as possible for first 24 hours to let area breathe.

  • Do not touch the procedure area(s) with your fingers, they may have bacteria/fungus/virus on them and create an infection.

  • Don’t soak in a pool, bath, or hot tub until your tattoo is completely healed. This usually takes about 2 weeks.

  • Don’t exercise (such as run, do yoga, or cycle) for 1 week after your procedure or while there’s scabbing. If you’re in physical therapy, it’s okay to continue after your procedure.

  • Don’t lift anything heavier than 20 pounds (9 kilograms) for 1 week after your procedure or while there’s scabbing.

  • 1 to 3 Days After Your Procedure:

    • Anastasia may place Tegaderm™ plastic dressing on your tattoo right after your procedure. Leave this dressing on for 3 days.

    • You may shower normally with your dressing on. It’s waterproof.

    • Fluid may build up underneath your dressing. This is normal. If your dressing starts to come off or if fluid is dripping from your dressing, just take it off gently.

  • 4 Days After Your Procedure:

    • Remove the Tegaderm™ dressing. Gently clean the area in the shower with warm water and your normal shower soap. Don’t rub the area to get it clean.

    • Leave any scabs that may have formed alone. This can pull away the ink on your tattoo. They will heal and come off on their own.

    • After your shower, dry the area gently. Apply non-scented white lotion (such as Lubriderm®, Aveeno®, or Eucerin®) to the tattooed area until it absorbs.

  • 5 to 14 Days After Your Procedure:

    • Continue applying non-scented white lotion to the area at least once a day. You may apply lotion more than once a day if the area looks dry.

Some factors are in your control, and others may not be.

Factors Within Your Control: Nutritional status (vitamin status and how healthy you eat can influence how you heal) Hydration of the skin (meaning you want to be drinking plenty of water) How closely do you follow aftercare instructions (avoiding sun, lotion, etc. on the wound while it is healing) Smoking (smoking will increase healing time & make your pigment fade quickly; please avoid smoking during the healingprocess)
Factors Outside of Your Control: The age of your skin (younger skin tends to retain pigment less than mature skin) Oily skin (the more oily the skin the shorter the results will last) Excessive sun damage Genetics and issues with immune function Hormone imbalances such as hypothyroidism or estrogen dominance can impact pigmentation of the skin Medical conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes High levels of stress
